BrewDog DogHouse Edinburgh: a craft beer hotel on the Royal Mile

Twenty beer-themed suites, a rooftop firepit over Old Town rooftops, and two bars pouring thirty beers — seven minutes’ walk from Waverley Station.

A Victorian schoolhouse, reworked by a brewery with opinions
BrewDog opened its first Scottish hotel just off the Royal Mile in December 2021, inside a converted red sandstone building on the corner of Market Street and New Street. It’s the kind of address that puts Waverley Station on one side and the closes of the Old Town on the other, without a taxi in sight.

There are only twenty rooms, each a two-level maisonette suite named for something in BrewDog’s own mythology rather than a generic tier. Downstairs, two bars pour close to thirty beers between them; upstairs, a rooftop terrace with a firepit does most of the heavy lifting for anyone deciding whether to book.

It won’t suit travellers after hushed, anonymous luxury — but for a beer-literate weekend, a well-located stag or hen trip, or anyone tired of chain-hotel sameness in the Old Town, it’s one of the more distinctive stays in the city.

Where to Sleep: The rooms

All twenty rooms are maisonette-style suites spread over two floors, with minibars stocked with beer rather than the usual miniatures, plus a kettle and flat-screen TV throughout.

Entry Suite: Punk Suite
The standard offering — a king bed, a proper sitting area downstairs and a 33-inch screen. Sleeps 2

Family-friendly: Brewmaster’s Suite
More space to spread out, with room for a family or a group weekend split across two levels. Sleeps 4

Top of the range: Captain’s Suite
The most theatrical of the three tiers, leaning into rolltop baths and record-player details.
Sleeps 4

Accessible: Accessible Punk
The Punk Suite’s layout adapted for step-free access, on the ground floor. Sleeps 2
